A recent study conducted by GoBankingRates.com has shed light on the favorite car brands of the baby boomer generation across the United States. The study indicates that baby boomers, when buying a car, are more likely to have saved over 25% of the cost and typically prefer American-made cars when compared to other generations.
Insurify Data: American Brands Lead the Pack
The data for the study was sourced from Insurify, a leading insurance comparison shopping website. The data reveals that American car brands are the preferred choice for baby boomers in 38 states. Ford emerged as the top choice in 20 states, followed by Chevrolet in 18 states, and Toyota in 10 states. Overall, Ford was the most popular brand, with 13% of baby boomers owning a Ford vehicle.
Boomers' Saving Habits and Car Preferences
Jenni Newman, the editor-in-chief of Cars.com, noted, “Boomers are more likely than other generations to save money for more than 25% of their vehicle’s final price.” She also mentioned that Gen X is more likely to save less than 10% of their vehicle's final price.
Boomers' Car Brand Preferences by State
The study by GoBankingRates also revealed that baby boomers' car brand preferences vary by state. Chevrolet is a popular choice in many states, especially in the Midwest and South. States such as Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Wisconsin favor Chevrolet.
Ford, another popular choice, is the preferred brand in states including Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Toyota holds a strong position, particularly in coastal states. Baby boomers in California, Florida, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont prefer Toyota.
Nissan, although not as popular as the other brands, still enjoys popularity in Connecticut and New Hampshire.
