BRICS, China's Ascendancy, and the Hegemon's Abandonment of "Security"
The first gathering of security experts and National Security Advisors under the expanded BRICS+ format at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg revealed several insights.
China's Security Initiatives
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi proposed four security initiatives centered around BRICS. The main goals of these initiatives are peaceful coexistence, independence, autonomy, and true multilateralism, which essentially rejects Exceptionalism. The primary theme during the BRICS meeting was the support of member nations for each other despite numerous challenges.
India and Russia's Alliance
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu, during a meeting with Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, emphasized the strength of their alliance, which has stood the test of time.
BRICS: A Unique Group
Foreign Minister S.Jaishankar offered a larger context at the Geneva Center for Security Policy, stating that BRICS is a unique group because it consists of large countries rising in the international system, unlike other groups which are usually bound by geographical contiguity, common historical experience, or a strong economic connect.
Russia and Brazil's Similar Approaches
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov highlighted the similar approaches of Russia and Brazil towards key international issues. He also emphasized the importance of bilateral mutual understanding and interaction.
Russia-Iran Strategic Partnership
President Putin confirmed his expectation for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to visit Russia for another meeting apart from the BRICS summit, to sign their new strategic partnership agreement. The development of the International North South Transportation Corridor (INSTC) was confirmed as a top Russia-Iran priority.
China's Rising Global Trade Power
China's rising status as the top global trade power is causing a shift in international relations. Many nations across the Global South are adapting to the fact that interaction with China is the main way to improve their domestic living standards and socioeconomic development.
Proposed Pan-Eurasian Security System
President Putin proposed a new pan-Eurasian security system that would be open to all Eurasian countries that wish to participate, including European and NATO countries. The new security architecture should gradually phase out the military presence of external powers in the Eurasian region, specifically NATO.
U.S. Proxy War Against Russia
Washington remains focused on its goal of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. There are only two options ahead for the U.S. proxy war against Russia in Ukraine: an unconditional Kiev surrender, or escalation towards a NATO war against Russia.
Bottom Line
The concept of security has been undermined by the Hegemon. The idea of a three-front war is even being entertained by some in U.S. Think Tankland. It's a spectacle to witness a nation that essentially looted most of its land from others believe it can simultaneously challenge the Persians, the Russians, and an Asian civilization with 5,000 years of recorded history.
