Dodgers' Decision on 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence' Sparks Outrage - A Closer Look at the Controversy

Dodgers Withdraw Award to 'Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence' After Public Outcry

Controversial Group Sparks Outrage

The "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence," often criticized as an anti-Catholic organization, caused an uproar among Dodgers fans when they discovered that their team planned to honor the group. Known for their controversial motto "Go and sin some more" and their use of the cross for pole dances, the group is notorious for satirizing Catholic beliefs. They have been known to mock Easter Sunday with a Hunky Jesus/Foxy Mary contest and hold "Midnight Confessional Contests" where they award the "hottest confessions."

Public Backlash and Union Intervention

Following public outrage, the Dodgers rescinded their award and disinvited the "Sisters." However, the California Teachers Association (CTA) intervened, pressuring the Dodgers to uphold their decision against the wishes of their paying customers. The CTA even released a public statement condemning the Dodgers' decision to rescind the Community Hero Award for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Concerns from Veteran California Teachers

As veteran California teachers who have served within the unions, we are alarmed by the CTA's endorsement of a group that mocks nuns. We question why the CTA is not facing the same backlash as the Dodgers. The CTA's intrusion into America's national pastime and its endorsement of drag queens mocking nuns is scandalous, leading many Americans to protest against teacher unions.

Religious Leaders Express Concern

Religious leaders, including Father Sebastian Walshe of St. Michael’s Abbey in the Diocese of Orange, have expressed concern over the CTA's stance. The CTA defends its position by arguing that the Dodgers' decision is rooted in bigotry, leading to the banning of LGBTQIA+ books, criminalization of drag shows, and denial of medical care to minors. However, many Americans disagree, arguing that they are pushing back on pornographic books, drag queen events, and sex transition surgeries on children because these things are destructive to children and an affront to families and American values.

Outrage Extends Beyond Catholics

Outrage over the CTA's endorsement extends beyond Catholics. Jews, Muslims, Protestants, and teachers are also expressing their disapproval. Rabbi Dov Fischer, a senior congregational rabbi and law professor in California, and Dr. Ahmed Soboh, the Chairman of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, have both spoken out against the CTA's actions.

CTA Does Not Represent Majority of Teachers

Most teachers would agree with the reasonable statements of Father Walshe, Rabbi Fischer, and Imam Soboh. However, the CTA does not represent the majority of teachers. The CTA's endorsement of the "Sisters" is offensive to most teachers and reflects the radical views of CTA leadership.

Concerns for Public Education

Families of faith are appalled by the CTA's actions and its control over the direction of public education. Sahara Medrano, a veteran teacher and a minority representative of the California Teachers’ Union State Council, warns that a politically charged anti-Christian culture of religious intolerance is spreading throughout public school districts across the nation. This trend threatens the confidence of the religious community in the public school system.

Call for Protest

We are calling on teachers to join in protest against the CTA's actions. We commend Muslims, Jews, Catholics, and Protestants for collectively taking a stand for true religious tolerance, by standing against the religious intolerance of CTA. Teachers can stop the power of the intolerant CTA by refusing to pay union dues, but we need your help educating teachers that they no longer have to pay unions as a condition of employment.

Bottom Line

As public school teachers who have also served in Christian ministry for years, we believe it's time for Americans to use their financial power to deliver a sting to the Dodgers and companies like Bud Light and Target who cave to pressure from special interest groups. If we help teachers empty the purses of union overlords, Americans can restore childhood innocence and freedom of speech and religion, and get back to enjoying baseball.
