A man from Nicaragua, who had entered the U.S. illegally, was arrested in Wisconsin following an investigation into horrifying crimes he allegedly committed against a 12-year-old girl. Authorities say the girl's mother was also involved in the crime.

Sexual Assault Complaint Leads to Arrest

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office received a sexual assault complaint from the rural town of Oakfield just after midnight on Sunday. Deputies responded to the call and discovered that a 12-year-old girl had escaped from a vehicle and sought help from a local resident. The girl reported that she had been bound, blindfolded, and sexually assaulted by a man, but she was able to fight him off and escape.

Suspect Taken into Custody

SWAT teams raided a residence in the city of Fond du Lac on Monday night and arrested the male suspect. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office released a statement explaining that the suspect allegedly paid the victim’s mother for time alone with the girl. The suspect, a man in his early thirties from Nicaragua, had entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico into Texas in October of 2021. He was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, processed, and then released per current federal immigration policy.

Victim's Mother Also Arrested

The mother of the victim was also arrested, and her immigration status is currently under review. Both suspects were being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail as of Monday.
