Kamala Harris Visits Arizona Border Amid Immigration Crisis
On Friday, Kamala Harris, often referred to as the 'Border Czar', took a trip to the southern US border in Arizona. This location has been a point of entry for countless illegal migrants from around the globe during the Biden-Harris administration.
During her visit, Harris made a surprising statement, calling for stricter border security measures. She pledged to implement various immigration reforms if she wins the upcoming election in November, including a 5-year ban on reentry for individuals who enter the country illegally.
Harris stated, "The United States is a sovereign nation and I believe we have a duty to set rules at our border and enforce them. And I take that responsibility very seriously."
Following her speech, Harris proposed a path to citizenship for those who have been living in the country "for years."
Harris' Contradictory Statements on Border Control
Harris has previously criticized President Trump's border wall, referring to it as a "medieval vanity project" in 2019. However, during her recent visit, she seemed to appreciate the very same project she once criticized.
In a shocking revelation on the same day, Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) disclosed that US Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) had released over 650,000 migrants with criminal records into the United States from mid-May 2023 through the end of July 2024.
According to deputy DHS Director Patrick J. Lechleitner, "As of July 21, 2024, there were 662,566 noncitizens with criminal histories on ICE's national docket, which includes those detained by ICE and on the agency's non-detained docket. Of those, 435,729 are convicted criminals, and 226,847 have pending criminal charges."
This revelation could not have come at a worse time for Harris, who has been criticized for her handling of the border crisis.
Harris' Past Statements on Immigration
Harris' past statements on immigration have also been brought into question. She previously stated that she would "close immigration detention centers on day one," which contradicts her recent call for stricter border control.
Bottom Line
The immigration crisis at the US border continues to be a contentious issue. Harris' recent visit and the revelation about the number of criminals released into the country have only added fuel to the fire. It's clear that the current administration's approach to border control and immigration is under scrutiny. What are your thoughts on this?
