Over a Quarter of Democrats Believe US Would Be Better if Trump Had Been Assassinated

A recent poll conducted after the second assassination attempt on Donald Trump reveals that more than a quarter of Democrats think the country would be in a better state if the shooters had succeeded. This poll, carried out by the Napolitan News Service, surveyed 1000 registered voters and asked the question: “While it is always difficult to wish ill of another human being, would America be better off if Donald Trump had been killed last weekend?”

Survey Results

The results were quite surprising. Only 69 percent of respondents answered 'no'. Seventeen percent said 'yes', and 14 percent were 'not sure'. The poll discovered that 92 percent of Republicans believe the country would be worse off if Trump had been assassinated, leaving us to question the remaining eight percent who felt differently.

Democrats' Perspective

Interestingly, fewer than half of the Democrats, only 48 percent, agreed that an assassinated Trump would be worse for America. A significant 28 percent of Democrats, more than one in four, believed that Trump being killed would have benefited the country. Another quarter were not sure.

Democrats' Perception of Trump

The poll also revealed that 82 percent of Democrats perceive Trump as a “major threat to democracy,” with only 8 percent disagreeing. Furthermore, half of the Democrats surveyed believe it’s at least somewhat likely that Trump himself or the Trump campaign was involved with the assassination attempt, with 21 percent saying it is very likely.

Reaction to the Poll

Scott Rasmussen, president of RMG Research, commented on the poll results, stating, “It is hard to imagine a greater threat to democracy than expressing a desire to have your political opponent murdered.” This sentiment was echoed by many, with some expressing their concern over the number of people who hold such views.

Public Sentiment

Public sentiment on the matter is mixed. Some believe that the media and the Democrats' continuous portrayal of Trump as a threat to Democracy has led to this kind of thinking. They argue that people have been socially conditioned to believe that wanting Trump dead is not advocating violence, but rather defending the country.

Bottom Line

The results of this poll raise questions about the state of political discourse in the United States. It's concerning to see such a significant portion of respondents expressing a belief that the country would be better off if a political opponent had been assassinated. This raises questions about the role of rhetoric in shaping public opinion and the potential consequences of such extreme views. What are your thoughts on this matter?
