Ryan Wesley Routh: Alleged Trump Assassination Attempt and Views on World War III

Ryan Wesley Routh's Alleged Assassination Attempt on Former President Trump

Book Reveals Routh's Views on World War III

Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, expressed in a book he published in February 2023 that he eagerly anticipates World War III and dreams of burning down the Kremlin.

In his book titled "Ukraine’s Unwinnable War," Routh wrote, "I do dream of the day that we cross over into Russia and march towards Moscow. That is the part of this third world war that I look forward to. I want to be the one that burns down the Kremlin and all the cruelty that it signifies."

Routh's Criticism of Trump and Iran Nuclear Deal

In another section of his book, Routh criticized Trump for withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal and admitted his own part in the blame for voting for the former president. He also suggested that Iran could assassinate both Trump and himself.

Routh's Desire to Fight in Ukraine

Routh repeatedly expressed his desire to fight in Ukraine against the Russian military in his book and on social media. In 2022, he traveled to Ukraine, but admitted in an interview with Newsweek Romania that he was too old to fight. As a backup plan, Routh aimed to recruit people globally for Ukraine’s foreign legion.

NY Times' Description of Routh

The NY Times referred to Routh as a "crusader for causes large and small." In a follow-up article published after Routh's arrest, Semafor reported that Routh was the head of a group he founded called the International Volunteer Center. However, the Ukrainian authorities involved in foreign recruitment described Routh as "a bit over the top."

Ukraine's Foreign Legion Distances Itself from Routh

Since Routh's arrest, Ukraine’s foreign legion has distanced itself from him. The International Legion in Ukraine clarified that Routh was never associated with them in any capacity.

Routh's Appearance in Azov Brigade Video

Routh briefly appeared in a propaganda video from May 2022 for the Azov Brigade, a notorious neo-Nazi unit in the Ukrainian National Guard. In response, the Azov Brigade stated that Routh has no connection to Azov and has never had any connection to Azov.
