"Sanders Deems Harris 'Progressive' Despite Her Policy Shifts"
In a recent interview with NBC News' "Meet the Press", Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) labeled Vice President Kamala Harris as "pragmatic" for her shift in views on fracking and "Medicare for All". He suggested that Harris is making these changes to secure her chances in the upcoming election, but he still sees her as a "progressive" figure.
"Even though our views differ, I still regard her as a progressive," Sanders stated.
Harris, who was once considered the most liberal member of Congress, appears to be appealing to moderate voters. Sanders believes she will return to her more liberal stance once elected.
Sanders also proposed that Harris could defeat Donald Trump by campaigning on progressive issues such as increasing the minimum wage, raising taxes on the wealthy, and boosting Social Security benefits.
"If she campaigns on these issues—like raising taxes on billionaires—I believe she can win, and win big," Sanders asserted.
Over the past few weeks, Harris has made significant changes to her positions, including withdrawing her support for a ban on fracking and "Medicare for All".
Despite these changes, Harris insisted in a CNN interview last month that her core values remain the same.
"The most critical aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is that my values have not changed," she said.
Harris has proposed a 28% tax rate on long-term capital gains for households earning $1 million or more, similar to Biden's proposed 39.6% tax rate. When asked about Harris's proposed rate, Sanders said he would go even higher.
Sanders also praised former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) and her father, Dick Cheney, for their support of Harris, despite their opposing views.
Sanders stated that the Cheneys, along with other NeverTrumpers, are willing to cross party lines to prevent Trump's reelection.
"I believe there is a significant number of Republicans who may not agree with the vice president on certain issues, but they cannot support someone who is a pathological liar and who incited an insurrection to overthrow the election," Sanders said.
"Bottom Line"
In conclusion, it's clear that politics can make strange bedfellows. Despite their differing views, Sanders and the Cheneys find common ground in their support for Harris. It will be interesting to see how these alliances and policy shifts play out in the upcoming election. What are your thoughts on this development?
