During a campaign rally in Wisconsin on Wednesday, Donald Trump expressed his belief that Europe has “welcomed jihad” and as a result, cities such as London and Paris are losing their unique culture and tradition.
Trump's Statements on Europe's Open Doors to Jihad
Trump shared his observations with the large crowd, stating, “We’ve witnessed the aftermath when Europe welcomed jihad. Take a look at Paris, take a look at London – they’ve become unrecognisable.”
He continued, “I’m going to attract a lot of criticism from people in Paris and London, but the truth is, they’ve changed.”
“They’ve become unrecognisable and we can’t let that happen to our country,” Trump cautioned, adding “We have a remarkable culture and tradition – there’s nothing wrong with their culture, their tradition – but we can’t let that happen here.”
He further pledged, “I’ll never let it happen to the United States of America.”
Trump's Reference to Pro-Palestine/Anti-Israel Encampments
Trump also alluded to the pro-Palestine/Anti-Israel encampments and University occupations happening in several US cities.
He urged, “I call on every college president to dismantle the encampments immediately. Eliminate the radicals and reclaim our campuses for all the regular students who want a safe environment to learn.”
The protests have been a regular occurrence in Europe, especially in London where they have been ongoing every week since the end of last year.
Trump's Previous Statements on London and Paris
Trump has previously criticised London and Paris, stating in 2016 that “London and other places... are so radicalised that the police are fearful for their own lives.”
In Paris, the police have recently carried out a new round of “social cleansing” by removing illegal migrants off the streets and relocating them to other parts of the country in preparation for the Summer Olympics.
Trump’s comments also follow Austrian MEP Harald Vilimsky's warning that Europe is at risk of becoming “a second Arabia or Africa” and that governments are importing migrants who pose security threats and then proposing ‘solutions’ that only penalise native populations.
