Human Smuggling Operation Busted in Texas
Two men suspected of human smuggling were apprehended in Texas after they were discovered transporting over a dozen illegal immigrants, some of whom were concealed inside tool boxes, as per law enforcement officials. The operation was exposed on Tuesday in Webb County, which is situated near the Mexican border.
Smugglers Caught in the Act
The Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) troopers had just stopped two suspicious trucks on Interstate 35 when one of the drivers tried to escape on foot. However, the fleeing suspect was swiftly caught and taken into custody.
Identifying the Suspects
The suspect who attempted to flee was identified as Daniel Pena, a resident of Zapata, Texas. The second driver was identified as Mario R. Gutierrez Zambrano, an illegal immigrant from Mexico.
Discovering the Hidden Passengers
Upon searching the vehicles, troopers discovered three males hidden inside a large tool box on the back of one truck and at least one male hidden within another tool box attached to the other vehicle. Several more illegal immigrants were found inside the cab of the pickup truck.
Arrests and Charges
In total, 15 illegal immigrants were apprehended and referred to the U.S. Border Patrol. Both drivers were arrested by TxDPS and charged with human smuggling.
