World Leaders' Approval Ratings in 2024: Insights and Trends

World Leaders' Approval Ratings in 2024: A Global Overview
Only Eight Leaders with Positive Net Approval Ratings
A report by Morning Consult has revealed that out of 25 world leaders, only eight currently have positive net approval ratings. This means that these leaders have more people in their countries who approve of them than those who disapprove.
Leaders with Positive Approval Ratings
As highlighted by Katharina Buchholz from Statista, the leaders who have managed to maintain positive approval ratings are Prime Ministers Narendra Modi of India, Anthony Albanese of Australia, Dick Schoof of the Netherlands, Simon Harris of Ireland, and Donald Tusk of Poland. Presidents Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico, Javier Milei of Argentina, and Viola Amherd of Switzerland also fall into this category.
Impact of Global Crises on Approval Ratings
During the COVID-19 crisis in 2020 and 2021, approval ratings of world leaders mostly decreased or remained at low levels. The situation has not improved much even as the world grapples with other crises such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Leaders with Poor Approval Ratings
French President Emmanuel Macron's approval rating is among the worst, with a net approval of -48 percent. Other leaders with significantly low ratings include Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, South Korean President Yoon Seok-youl, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Scholz has the lowest approval rating of all, standing at -53 percent.
Bottom Line
It's clear that global crises have had a significant impact on the approval ratings of world leaders. While a select few have managed to maintain positive ratings, the majority are facing disapproval from their constituents. What do you think about these approval ratings? Do they reflect the leaders' performance or are they influenced by external factors? Feel free to share this article with your friends and discuss.
