The Question

Within my synagogue, and I believe this is common in many others, we all stand at attention when the rabbi or chazzan recites the blessing of Sefirat HaOmer. Following this, they proceed to count the Omer. This raises a question: how can we recite the blessing afterwards when we have already clearly heard it before (and thus, presumably, fulfilled our obligation with it)?
