Doug Casey's Predictions for America After the Election
International Man: The 2020 Presidential elections were fraught with allegations of cheating, voter fraud, and other irregularities. What are your predictions for the 2024 election in this regard? Do you anticipate that the outcome will be disputed?
Doug Casey: Election disputes have a long history, dating back to the 1960 election when Chicago’s Mayor Daley allegedly manipulated ballot boxes, enabling Kennedy to narrowly defeat Nixon. Similar controversies arose during the 2000 election between baby Bush and Al Gore, with the infamous Hanging Chad issue being decided by Bush’s brother Jeb, then governor of Florida. The 2016 election saw Hillary Clinton accuse Trump of stealing the election, which she believed was rightfully hers. Trump’s complaints about fraud in 2020 are not unprecedented. Despite widespread denials from mainstream media, I believe Trump's claims have merit.
Looking to the future, I predict that the 2024 election will proceed more or less as usual, barring any unforeseen emergencies. However, I anticipate that the election will be contested by the losing party, potentially leading to chaos and ugliness. The increasing hostility between the Blues and the Reds, who seem incapable of civil discourse, is a worrying sign that we may be on the brink of a civil war.
International Man: What is your top cultural prediction for America after the election?
Doug Casey: The current cultural climate in the United States bears striking resemblance to China in the late 1960s, during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. This revolution aimed to eradicate the Four Olds—old customs, old culture, old habits, and old ideas. The ongoing Woke Revolution in the US shares many similarities with the Chinese Cultural Revolution, including the radicalism in universities and its endorsement by the government and media.
Although there is some pushback against the Woke cultural revolution, it may be insufficient and too late. Those opposing it lack a solid alternative philosophy to rally around. They fail to recognize the destructive nature of the Woke principles and some even want to impose their own brand of authoritarianism.
I hope Trump wins not because he’s a solution, but because he is a cultural conservative who doesn’t want to overturn the essence of what’s left of America. The ongoing psychological war requires a well-defined philosophy and moral tenets, something that is currently lacking.
International Man: What is your top geopolitical prediction for America after the election?
Doug Casey: The US military is one of the few functioning aspects of the US government that still commands the respect of the population. However, it is becoming less effective over time, with traditional values being discouraged and woke notions being promoted.
The US military, which consumes around a trillion dollars of the government’s spending annually, is like a giant hammer. The 11 expensive carrier battle groups floating around foreign waters are not for “defense” but are more like an attractive nuisance, provoking trouble.
I predict we’re heading for World War 3, with Gaza and Ukraine being potential hotspots for US involvement. With several hundred US military bases around the world, there’s plenty of room for unexpected events to occur.
International Man: What is your top financial prediction for America after the election?
Doug Casey: Interest rates, the price of money, are the most important market, and they are heavily manipulated by the Fed.
Interest rates are currently lower than they should be, considering the number of dollars being created by the Fed and the commercial banking system. Higher interest rates are inevitable and necessary to discourage consumption and speculation, and encourage savings to rebuild the country’s capital.
Higher interest rates will make things tougher for the economy and work against the stock market. I recommend avoiding bonds and stocks, and real estate is also risky, especially as interest rates rise.
International Man: Given everything we’ve discussed today, what steps can people take for prudence and profit?
Doug Casey: I advise people to get liquid, be prepared, and set aside a few months’ worth of essentials in case of hardship.
Build your savings in gold, silver, and Bitcoin. Try to improve your skills as a speculator, as I expect the markets to become chaotic. I remain bullish on gold and other commodities, and I believe that resource stocks will catch the public’s attention.
We are in for what the Chinese would call “interesting times.”
