ŚGP Industria Discovers Uranium Deposit in Southern Poland
The Świętokrzyska Industrial Group Industria (ŚGP Industria) has announced the discovery of a uranium deposit in the Świętokrzyskie Region of southern Poland. The company has chosen to keep the exact location confidential for now but plans to conduct further exploration to ascertain the size of the deposit and potential extraction methods. This discovery was made during exploratory activities, and the company will be conducting detailed investigations in the coming months to determine the deposit's size and potential exploitation methods.
International Atomic Energy Agency's Estimation of Poland's Uranium Reserves
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Poland is estimated to have around 100,000 tons of natural uranium. However, only 7,000 tons have been confirmed to date. ŚGP Industria was granted an exploratory concession by the Ministry of Climate and Environment for a polymetallic deposit containing uranium in the region. The company's efforts have verified the presence of uranium in the deposit. Over the next few months, exploration will continue to precisely determine the deposit's size, the content of various elements, and potential extraction methods.
ŚGP Industria's Cooperation with Rolls-Royce on Small Modular Reactors
Szczepan Ruman, president of the Board of ŚGP Industria, expressed his satisfaction with the company's efforts over the past three years to develop mining in the Świętokrzyskie Region and access to critical raw materials in Poland, including uranium, which is crucial for the nuclear sector. He further stated that the discovery of the uranium deposit is a significant event in terms of developing cooperation with Rolls-Royce on implementing small modular reactors (SMRs) in Poland.
The company conducted its studies based on documents from the National Geological Archive of the State Geological Institute in Warsaw. These documents include data from the Soviet atomic program and uranium ore searches in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains in the 1950s.
