Kamala Harris's Policy Flip-Flops Indicate Desperation

Introduction

Running for presidency with a policy set that offers little benefit to the country is one thing, but it's a whole other level of desperation when a candidate, in a bid to gain positive attention, adopts the very same positions they've previously criticized, some as recent as a few months ago. This is the current situation with Kamala Harris.

Adopting Opposing Policies

While Donald Trump spent the previous week advocating for the same policies he ran on during his first term as president, Kamala Harris was advocating for the exact opposite of what her administration has done for the last 3.5 years. She was even adopting another one of Trump's policies she previously railed against: building a border wall.

Harris' New Stance on Border Wall

Recent reports suggest that Harris is now considering spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a wall on the southern border. This is a project she once opposed and called "un-American" during the Trump administration. It's worth noting that Harris had also previously referred to a wall as a "medieval vanity project", "racist", "useless", a "stupid use of money", a "complete waste of taxpayer money", and "wasteful".

Harris' Policy Shifts

This significant and hypocritical shift in stance by Kamala Harris marks the second major Trump policy she's adopted since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee just over a month ago. Her repeated criticism of the idea of a border wall, combined with the fact that she has allowed millions of illegal immigrants to cross the border during her tenure as Vice President and "Border Czar", makes this policy change seem like pure desperation.

Impact on Voters

If voters didn't realize that Harris has no good ideas when she adopted Trump’s “no tax on tips” policy, they're likely to catch on now. Attempting to wave another massive policy flip-flop in the face of the voters that matter—swing state independents and centrists—is likely to appear ridiculous at this point. The pivot is so stark and contrasts so much with Harris’s past rhetoric that even the least informed voters are bound to take notice.

Trump's Consistent Policies

While Harris continues to avoid making any type of consequential policy decision or taking journalists’ questions at a press conference, President Trump has been securing the support of former Democrats like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard, not just for his policy stances, but also for the conviction with which he has held those positions.

Leadership Qualities

Regardless of one's opinion about Donald Trump, it can't be denied that he has conviction in the policies that he is advocating for. He ran on a secure border in 2016, 2020, and is doing the same in 2024. He didn't change his stance to please those that disagreed with what he thought was best for the country. This alone makes him a better leader than Harris.

Harris' Strategy

Harris appears to be being told what to think, but she's running out of flip-flop mojo. If she continues with this nebulous strategy of trying to please everyone, she will likely soon have to contend with the fact that spreading herself too thin on the issues does more harm to her credibility with her existing base, than good in attracting new voters.
