Election Interference: Meta Acknowledges Facebook's Censorship of Anti-Kamala Posts
Meta's Senior Software Engineer Reveals Censorship Tactics
A senior software engineer at Meta recently confessed to a covert journalist from O'Keeffe Media Group that Facebook suppresses conservative voices. Jeevan Gyawali disclosed that those who criticize Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in their posts would experience their accounts being shadowbanned and their posts downgraded.
Shadowbanning and Demoting Posts
Gyawali explained, “If someone in Ohio made a comment about Kamala Harris being unfit to be president because she doesn't have a child, that kind of content is automatically downgraded.” He further stated that the user “would not be notified” about the action taken, indicating that his account would be shadowbanned.
Meta's "Integrity Team" and "Civic Classifiers"
During the discussion with the undercover journalist, Gyawali also referred to Meta’s “Integrity Team,” a group that censors content through “civic classifiers,” a system designed to shadowban those who challenge the status quo. He explained that if anything is related to political content, it’s automatically not shown.
Meta's Influence on Elections
Gyawali also conceded that Meta could sway the 2024 election, similar to their influence in 2020. He further alleged that founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg endorses the suppression of conservative voices.
James O'Keefe's Revelation
James O’Keefe also released another video in which he informed Gyawali that the woman he believed was merely his date was in fact an undercover journalist. Upon hearing the details, Gyawali responded with surprise before abruptly ending the call.
Trump's Stance on Zuckerberg
Donald Trump has previously declared that he would incarcerate Zuckerberg if he unlawfully influenced the 2024 election. Following this, Zuckerberg made every effort to regain his standing in Trump’s eyes, even assuring Trump that he would not vote for a Democrat in this election cycle.
Bottom Line
The revelation of Meta's censorship practices raises serious questions about the role of social media platforms in shaping public opinion and potentially influencing electoral outcomes. It also highlights the need for transparency and accountability in how these platforms operate. What are your thoughts on this matter?
