Migrant Rescue in Mexico: 60+ Individuals Found in Abandoned Trailer

Over 60 Migrants Discovered in Abandoned Trailer in Mexico

Rescue Operation by Mexican Authorities

This week, Mexican authorities carried out a rescue operation for dozens of illegal migrants found in an abandoned tractor-trailer on a highway. The National Migration Institute (INM) announced these operations, which were both land and sea-based, on Wednesday.

Location and Composition of Migrants

A disabled big rig was found on a highway that links Cosoleacaque and La Tinaja in the state of Veracruz. The soft-top trailer contained 63 migrants. This group included 21 single adults from Bangladesh and India, as well as adults, unaccompanied minors, and family units from Central American countries and Cuba. The INM released footage showing the entire rig being towed on the highway with the migrants still inside the trailer.

Transfer of Migrants to Government Agencies

The migrants were subsequently transferred to the custody of various government agencies based on their individual statuses.

Another Rescue Operation at Sea

Another rescue operation took place near San Francisco del Mar in the state of Oaxaca. The Mexican Navy rescued 25 migrants who had been left in a small vessel under unclear circumstances. The group consisted of 19 single adults and two family groups from Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Jordan. The two family units were of Cuban origin and consisted of six members. The INM provided this information in a press release.

Shelter for the Rescued Migrants

The rescued migrants were taken to shelters while their immigration statuses are being reviewed.
