Modern Warfare: Robo-Dogs, Hypersonic Missiles, and Kamikaze Drones

The Middle East is teetering on the edge of a regional war as the world anticipates Israel's retaliatory strike against Iran. President Biden informed reporters on Thursday morning that discussions were underway with Israel about a possible strike on Iran's oil facilities. In the event of a wider conflict, the modern battlefield could resemble the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare video game. Iran, for instance, recently launched a series of ballistic missiles, including hypersonic ones.

Drone Attacks and Robo-Dogs

Terror organizations backed by Iran have recently launched numerous attacks on Israel and commercial shipping in the Southern Red Sea's maritime chokepoint using loitering munitions or "kamikaze drones." The latest technology to enter the battlefield, already in use in Eastern Europe and now being tested in the Middle East, is armed robot dogs. These are equipped with artificial intelligence, high-tech sensors, and rifles. An image shared on the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service shows a Robotics Vision 60 Quadrupedal-Unmanned Ground Vehicle, or Q-UGV, armed with what appears to be a main battlefield utilizing an M4/M16 platform.

Field Training and Testing

In mid-September, the Q-UGV was featured in a field training exercise at the Red Sands Integrated Experimentation Center in Saudi Arabia. A US Army Central spokesman informed Military.com that the armed Q-UGV was tested with several "non-counter-sUAS" systems alongside 15 counter-drone platforms at Red Sands. These 'Skynet'-like weapons of war "engaged several static ground targets," according to the military news website. The US Army has also been testing armed robo dogs in other locations beyond Red Sands.

Robo-Dogs in Eastern Europe

These robo-dogs have been spotted on battlefields in Eastern Europe. The Communist Party of China has also shown a keen interest in these 'Skynet' dogs.

China's Robot Dog Army

A video excerpt from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) shows a robot dog equipped with a machine gun operating in what is reportedly a series of military drills between China and Cambodia. Another excerpt shows a soldier walking with a robot dog equipped with a machine gun during the same military drills.

Delivery by Drone

These robot dogs can even be delivered to positions by heavy drones, as demonstrated in a video.

The French Army's Interest

The French army is also testing Boston Dynamics’ robot dog Spot in combat scenarios.

Deployment of Advanced Military Tech

All the advanced military technology that has been covered in the last fifteen years is being deployed on the modern battlefield as the risk of a third world war remains high.

Bottom Line

The use of advanced technology in warfare, such as armed robo-dogs, hypersonic missiles, and kamikaze drones, is becoming increasingly common. As the world teeters on the brink of a potential regional war in the Middle East, these technologies could play a significant role in shaping the future of warfare.
