Shop Owner Faces Legal Consequences for Defending Against Thief

Shop Owner Faces Harsher Punishment Than Thief

Store Owner Defends Against Thief

In a shocking incident caught on security footage, a New York City liquor store owner, Francisco Valerio, was seen defending himself against a thief. The video captures the moment when Francisco shot the thief, who was attacking him at the store's entrance.

The footage also shows Luis, Francisco's brother, ushering suspects Kevin Pullatasi and Edwin Paiquiza out of the store and onto the sidewalk. Pullatasi then charges towards the door, kicking and throwing punches at Francisco. In response, Francisco swings his fist, holding a gun, at the thief.

Francisco maintains that the gun accidentally discharged while he was attempting to hit the assailant with it.

Store Owner Faces Legal Consequences

Despite the circumstances, the New York City liquor store owner now faces the possibility of seven years in prison for shooting the thief who assaulted him and attempted to steal from his store. This incident occurred after Francisco and Luis caught Kevin Pullutasi and Edwin Paiquiza stealing.

The case is being handled in Queens, where District Attorney Melinda Katz is pressing felony charges against Francisco. This is despite Francisco having a concealed-carry permit and no criminal record. If convicted, Francisco could lose his business and face years in prison.

Meanwhile, Pullutasi is expected to recover from his injury and will face charges of assault and petit larceny. These charges carry a lesser punishment than what Katz is seeking for Francisco.

Justice System Criticized

Katz stated, "Two crimes resulted in three people being charged. The store owner was physically attacked by one of the men. Unfortunately, as alleged, that led to a reckless shooting by the store owner on a public street in broad daylight." Francisco has not been granted bail and is due back in court later this month.

This case has sparked criticism of the "justice" system, with many arguing that it is a key reason why millions of Americans are leaving cities perceived to be negatively impacted by Democrat policies.
