Leaked US Intelligence Confirms Israeli Nuclear Weapons
A leaked U.S. intelligence document that surfaced online this week confirms the existence of Israeli nuclear weapons. The document, which was reported by various outlets including Axios and CNN, states, "We have not observed indications that Israel intends to use a nuclear weapon."
U.S. officials are reportedly concerned about a potentially significant security breach after two alleged U.S. intelligence documents about Israel's preparations for an attack on Iran were published by a Telegram account affiliated with Iran.
The Authenticity of the Documents
The Associated Press and independent investigative journalist Ken Klippenstein have cited government sources who believe the documents to be authentic. Although U.S. officials have not publicly commented on the material, an investigation into their authenticity and how they ended up in the public domain is reportedly underway.
The world has been waiting for Israel's promised military response since Iran launched a barrage of missile strikes aimed at military targets in Israel on October 1. This was a retaliatory strike in response to Israel's assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other attacks.
The Leaked Documents
Assuming the documents are authentic, they reveal that U.S. intelligence, despite being close allies with Israel, closely monitors Israeli military operations. An unnamed U.S. official cited by CNN called the public release of the documents "deeply concerning."
The documents, marked as top secret, have markings indicating they are meant to be seen only by the U.S. and its "Five Eyes" allies — Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. They describe preparations Israel appears to be making for a strike against Iran. One of the documents, allegedly compiled by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, suggests that Israel is moving munitions around.
Another document, reportedly sourced to the National Security Agency, outlines Israeli air force exercises involving air-to-surface missiles, believed to be in preparation for a strike on Iran.
Israel's Nuclear Weapons Program
It is widely known that Israel has a nuclear weapons program and maintains a nuclear arsenal, but both Israeli and U.S. government policy is to never acknowledge or confirm the existence of either. One of the documents specifically references Israel's ability to deploy a nuclear weapon, but categorizes the threat of doing so in this case as low.
Independent journalist Ken Klippenstein, who was recently banned from X for posting an internal opposition research dossier that the Trump campaign had compiled on JD Vance, posted images of both documents to his substack page, criticizing major outlets for refusing to do so.
According to Klippenstein, the intelligence report includes a rundown of various aspects of Israeli military activities that the U.S. is monitoring to inform its judgments and conclusions. The second intelligence report details Israeli activities during an apparent "mission rehearsal" that could indicate how Israel will strike Iran.
Bottom Line
In defense of releasing the full documents, Klippenstein explained that they provide "insight of enormous public interest as we stand at the precipice of a broader conflict" and contain "information that directly bears upon U.S. obligations and actions."
This revelation raises many questions about the implications for global security and the potential for a broader conflict. What are your thoughts on this matter? Share this article with your friends and sign up for the Daily Briefing, which is delivered every day at 6pm.
